You can also get face to face assistance if there is a local IRS office in your area. On the IRS site, you can search for locations to see if there is one near you. You could also call any of the customer service numbers listed below and they can refer you to the proper department. One of the most commonly called IRS phone numbers is the Where's My Refund automated number, which can be reached at 1-800-829-4477. You will not be able to talk to a live representative when you call this number, but you can get automated information about the status of your return.
